The eight planets aren't variations on one design — they're built from three genuinely different structures. Here's what's really underneath the surface of each type.

Earth's thin rocky crust covers a rock-rich mantle. Unlike the giant planets, Earth has a solid surface.
Evidence: Earth's layers are constrained by seismic observations.
Jupiter · Saturn
Jupiter's cloud tops are not a solid surface; hydrogen and helium grow denser with depth.
Evidence: spacecraft observations of clouds and gravity; deeper layers are inferred.
Uranus · Neptune
Neptune has a hydrogen-, helium- and methane-rich atmosphere; it gradually blends into denser fluid regions.
Evidence: atmospheric measurements; the deep interior is inferred from models.
Rocky planets have solid crusts above rocky mantles and metal-rich cores. Jupiter and Saturn have no solid landing surface, and hydrogen changes state under immense pressure. Uranus and Neptune contain hot, dense water-, ammonia- and methane-bearing fluids — “ice” names their ingredients, not their temperature or state.
The rings do not indicate comparable depths: Earth's interiors are investigated with seismic waves, whereas giant-planet interiors are reconstructed from spacecraft gravity, magnetic-field and other measurements. Jupiter's central heavy-element-rich region may be diffuse rather than a small solid ball.
Compare a three-dimensional globe with the internal models above. You can see Earth's land and oceans or the cloud patterns of giant planets, but even a convincing 3D surface cannot show a giant planet's core. Rotate the globes to inspect what the images do — and do not — establish.
Earth's land and oceans are observable from space. Its mantle and core, however, require evidence beyond ordinary photographs, including seismic measurements.

The "ices" in ice giants are compressed under extreme pressure and heat — they behave as dense fluids, not the frozen ice you'd recognize.
Earth has real compositional boundaries studied with seismic waves; the interiors of gas and ice giants are much less certain. Colors and circles here are schematic, not measured depths or rigid shells.
